Ingredients

Ground beef and tomato sauce base
  • 1.5 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion Dice small.
  • 3 garlic Minced.
  • 24 oz marinara sauce Use 1 jar.
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 0.25 salt and pepper To taste; use salt and black pepper.
Pasta and creamy layer
  • 8 oz spaghetti Cooked.
  • 8 oz cream cheese Softened.
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 0.25 cup green onions Sliced.
  • 2 cup mozzarella cheese Shredded; reserve some for topping if desired.

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Prep and preheat
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13 baking dish so the layers release easily.
Cook the beef sauce
  1. Brown the ground beef with the diced onion in a skillet over medium-high heat until the meat is no longer pink, then drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper, then cook 30–60 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the marinara sauce, bring to a simmer, and simmer for 5 minutes so the flavors meld.
Make the cream cheese mixture
  1. Mix the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and sliced green onions until smooth and spreadable.
Assemble and bake
  1. Layer the cooked spaghetti into the greased baking dish in an even layer.
  2. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the noodles to create a creamy layer.
  3. Top with the beef and marinara sauce, spreading it to cover the cream cheese.
  4. Scatter the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top for a browned crust.
  5. Bake uncovered at 350°F for 35–40 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
Finish
  1. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving so the layers set.

Notes

Pro tip: drain the beef well after browning so the casserole doesn’t turn watery. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator up to 4 days; reheat individual portions until hot. Freeze assembled casserole (before baking) up to 2 months, thaw in the fridge overnight, then bake as directed. For a lighter option, use reduced-fat cream cheese and sour cream—texture stays creamy while cutting calories.
