Make the caramel cider base
- Whisk caramel sauce into 2 cups of the chilled apple cider until fully dissolved, then keep it cold. Visual cue: the mixture should look smooth and no caramel streaks remain.
- Pour the caramel cider and the remaining chilled apple cider into a punch bowl. Visual cue: the bowl should have a uniform golden color.
- Add the optional vanilla vodka to the punch bowl if using. Visual cue: the color stays golden and evenly mixed.
Flavor and prep for serving
- Add the thinly sliced apples and cinnamon sticks to the punch bowl. Visual cue: apple slices float near the top and cinnamon sticks spread through the liquid.
- Dip the glass rims in caramel sauce, then dip them in coarse sugar. Visual cue: you should see a clear caramel-to-sugar rim coating on each glass.
- Just before serving, pour in the chilled ginger ale and add ice to the punch bowl. Visual cue: you’ll see immediate gentle fizz and bubbles on the surface.
- Ladle the punch into the rimmed glasses. Visual cue: each glass gets apple slices and a cinnamon stick or two for a consistent look.
Notes
Pro tip: chill the apple cider, caramel mixture, and ginger ale until very cold so the punch stays lively when you add the fizz. Refrigerate the cider base (without ginger ale and ice) for up to 2 days; add ginger ale and ice right before serving for best carbonation. Freezing is not recommended because the fruit and carbonation will suffer. For a lighter option, use a low-sugar caramel sauce and skip the vanilla vodka.
